The Tuesday Duggan - On a Wednesday

For those that care, sorry about the delay in posting. What with the lack of posts after Thanksgiving, I just lost track of time. Now, lets disect this week’s Duggan.

Again with the swintrunks!? I thought that wrestlers of Duggan’s era generally wore skin-tight underwear! Anyhow, our hero is seen attempting to catch another wrestler that has apparently fallen off of something. I just have this sneaking suspicion that he is going to totally miss him. Oh, what’s that? You think that he maybe has thrown this other character over his head? Well, you are mistaken. He is trying to catch him. Hacksaw doesn’t believe in violence.

The BMs

Danno and I are working on a little collaboration that will, hopefully, feature many other artists as well. Here is page one of eight or so that I am inking for this project.

I don’t collaborate too often, but I am inking over Danno’s pencils. It is definitely a new experience for me and has been a blast so far. Thanks a lot to Danno for the ultra challenging cityscape in the first panel. Damn thing took me forever.

Tear it Loose!

What the hell does Tear it Loose mean? At the last Minneapolis Cartoonist Conspiracy Jam fellow conspirator Danno Klonowski was saying goodbye to somebody, I think he was saying too-duh-loo or something along those lines. Naturally, I thought he said Tear it Loose. Therefore, it is mandated that when saying goodbye to somebody, you must, every one out of ten times, say “Tear it Loose.” The Cartoonist Conspiracy’s resident teen, Matt Kriske, is going to attempt to get the teens to start using the phrase, which means it will be the next big thing!

So big in fact, that Danno and I have decided to make some money off of this. The picture above is a t-shirt design that Danno came up with.

Speaking of Danno….

New Project Update

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

You may recall a post a while back about a new longterm project that I have started. If not, read about it here. I am super excited about it and how it has been progressing. So much so that I am breaking a promise made to myself that I would only publish the first twenty pages on this site once they were all completed.

Well, here is page one.

Not a real “cliffhanger” per se, but I am really excited about this project regardless of how it turns out.

More to come later!

The Tuesday Duggan: See This is What I’m Talking About!

Remember last week when I posted a picture of good ole Hacksaw attempting to catch somebody that was falling? You may have thought Duggan had caused that wrestler’s predicament, but I disagree.

Here is another photo of the gentle bear that is Jim Duggan trying to save another pro wrestler who seems to have fallen off of the top rope! Oh, and notice the flag in his hand? That’s because Duggan is a true patriot that tries to save people while carrying the American flag. What a guy!

New Project (Hijinks) Page Two

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

As stated a few days ago, I am really excited about this new story that I am working on and, well, thought I’d share it with you as it progressed.

Ultimately, I will setup a portion of this site for the comic to be viewed as a “normal webcomic.” In the meantime, here is page two:

Ryan Dow’s “Weekends With Carl”

For those that have been living under a rock for the past year or so may have missed out on the weekly, then bi-weekly, updates of one of the most thoughtful and heartfelt comics that I have read. Ryan Dow, whom I’m glad to call a friend, posted the last page of his online graphic novel “Weekends with Carl” today.

Although I should have really been doing other things, I decided to go back and reread the entire story, something that I have done a few times now. I hope this doesn’t sound condescending, since I don’t hold any sort of authority in the comics scene, but it has been really great to watch Ryan’s art and storytelling mature over the last two years. I guess it is one of the things that, as an artist, you can truly gain satisfaction from as you watch it unfold.

If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and read this story from the beginning. You can do so by clicking here.

I cannot wait to see, and purchase, a published copy of this book!

Kudos to you Ryan!

KFAI: “The Cartoonists” on The Wave Project

Friends and co-Conspirators Steve Stwalley, Danno Klonowski, Zander Cannon, and Kevin Cannon were featured in an interview this weekend on KFAI radio here in the Twin Cities. You can download the archived MP3 stream here.

They discussed comics history, the current state of the artform, the Cartoonist Conspiracy, their own projects, and even gave “shout-outs” to some other artists and their projects. I was one of those artists mentioned alongside the Super Fantastica anthology that I edit! Thanks a lot for mentioning it guys! Also, thanks to all of those that have contributed in the past and future issues!
